Midwest Ultimate

About Us

Michelle Ng, Anna Nazarov, and Holly Greunke have played ultimate against each other at both the college and club levels since 2004.  Our ultimate experiences span four regions and among us, we share three Top 5 Callahan finishes, hold six All-Region selections, have captained our college and club teams for more than half a dozen seasons, and have run nearly a dozen tournaments.  For the first time, we've decided to team up on a project we all feel passionate about, and we hope that it positively impacts the growth and development of our sport in an area of the country where there are relatively few opportunities.

Michelle is a former captain of both the Berkeley and Texas ultimate teams.  During her time in the South Region, she has been a major advocate for college women's ultimate and has established close relationships with many of the teams in the South and Midwest, seeking to connect them and provide them with access to more quality regional tournaments.  Michelle currently co-captains Texas Showdown.

Anna's experiences helping to start the women's team at UCLA have given her a unique insight into the struggles of many of the young ultimate programs in the South and Midwest.  Her leadership and commitment were keys to BLU's meteoric rise to success and she led UCLA to a College Championships finals appearance in only its 3rd year of existence.  Anna currently plays with Bay Area Zeitgeist.

Holly's leadership in the Wisconsin Ultimate program helped Bella Donna back to the top of the Central Region and contributed to its recognition as one of the most well-respected programs in college ultimate.  Holly's experiences as both a captain and a coach make her a valuable part of this team.

We are running Midwest Warmup and Midwest Throwdown in partnership with the Washington University Women's Ultimate program.  Last year, Wash U qualified for the College Championships for the first time since 2001 and attended Women's College Centex, en route to capturing the South Region title.  This year, they are dreaming even bigger.  We are excited about our partnership with Wash U, and we look forward to supporting them in their endeavors to develop an elite ultimate program.  The leaders heading up the efforts are captains Sam Huo and Emily "Fookie" Luck, tournament directors Kate "Deuce" Wilson and Sarah Ebstein, and 5th year player Abby Stephens.  They are doing a tremendous amount of work, so stop them and say thanks at the next tournament!

We're also very fortunate and grateful to have our long-time friend Kristen Lamm designing the tournament logos and merchandise for us.  Kristen is a Florida FUEL alum who currently plays with Atlanta Ozone.  She will be coaching FUEL next season.  She works as a Marketing Manager for a non-profit in Gainesville and does freelance design in her spare time.  A big thank you to Kristen for all of her help and support of our work!
